Dietetics
At NPP all of our therapists are highly skilled clinicians that have years of experience working within the NHS, social services and the private sector.  Our Dietitians work as part of a highly skilled and dedicated Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and in the course of their careers' have worked across all areas of clinical practice.  Within NPP we have treating Dietitians as well as those that offer Medico-legal report writing.
What is Dietetics?
Dietetics is the interpretation and communication of the science of nutrition to enable people to make informed and practical choices about food and lifestyle and can also assist with feeding techniques such as tube feeding (enteral nutrition), and intravenous feeding (parenteral nutrition).  Dieticians provide dietary consultations to patients and their families and wider support network.

Our dieticians have trained in both hospital and community settings as well as holding a recognised degree, MSc or post graduate diploma in nutrition and dietetics.
Nutrition
Nutrition is the study of nutrients in food, how nutrients are used by the body, and the relationship between diet, health and disease.  There are particular considerations to take into account for clients with acquired brain and spinal cord injuries, for which our dieticians provide a valuable service.  These can be both physiological, from the physical injury and psychological from the brain injury.  Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, our Dieticians review patients' situation and conditions to develop individual plans to meet nutritional requirements.
Dieticians can complement the extended MDT by providing nutritional advice in its widest context but is particularly important in maintaining good gut health especially is spinal cord injury patients to prevent commonly associated problems such as constipation and diarrhoea.
Examples of a dieticians work can range from maintaining the fluid balance in an individual or specific diets through to balancing a diet that is beneficial to the client but also one that the client has the physical ability to prepare and the desire to eat.  Dieticians form part of the positive and motivating attitude of the whole multidisciplinary team.
