Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy relates to physiotherapy of the musculoskeletal system. This involves muscles, bones, joints, nerves, ligaments, cartilage and spinal discs. It uses physical approaches that involve not only manipulation but also manual assessment and treatment techniques such as:
  • Therapeutic exercise
  • Mobilisations
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Electrotherapy
  • Advice and education on posture/ movement disorders
  • Advice on pain management
  • Hydrotherapy (exercises in a pool)
Who might benefit from musculoskeletal physiotherapy?
Our specialism at NPP is with clients that have suffered brain injury often caused by a catastrophic physical injury.  Either or both elements may lead to conditions that would benefit from musculoskeletal physiotherapy.  In line with our multi-disciplinary approach, this can be incorporated into a wider rehabilitation plan, encompassing other team members or delivered on its own.
All Physiotherapists at NPP are Chartered and are members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP) and the Health Professions Council (HCP). This means they have at least 3-4 years training and have achieved a high standard to become members of the CSP.  Musculosketal physiotherapists also have a postgraduate (Masters Level) qualification that provide them with advanced skills in managing musculoskeletal problems. They are experts in the assessment, diagnosis and effective treatment of patients with musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
