Consultant - Rehabilitation and Geriatric Medicine
At City Hospital, he is responsible for the care of general medical patients and patients that have had strokes and acquired brain injuries and require Neuro-rehabilitation and is at the forefront of stroke medicine including; thrombolysis. He is proactive in the teaching of the Multi-Disciplinary Teams including medical and post-graduate students, physiotherapists, nurses and pharmacists. He is also actively involved with clinical research in Neurology and stroke rehabilitation
At Neurophysioplus, our focus for rehabilitation medicine is on the combined use of medications, physical modalities, physical training with therapeutic exercise, movement & activities modification, adaptive equipment and assistive device, orthotics (braces), prosthesis for clients with neurological or catastrophic physical injury. We approach each client in a multi-disciplinary manner, to maximise the effectiveness of the treatment and therefore, beneficial outcomes.
Our focus for Rehabilitation Medicine
Rehabilitation medicine, is a branch of medicine which focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and management of people with disabling medical conditions. Rehabilitation medicine physicians work with people with disabilities to reduce the impact of their disease or disability on their daily life, to prevent avoidable complications and to minimise the effects of changing disability. Because of the complex nature of catastrophic injury, rehabilitation medicine usually benefits from a multidisciplinary team approach.
What is Rehabilitation Medicine?
Dr Siddiqui Consultant Physician (MRCP) and is lead Consultant Physician with Neurophysioplus Ltd. Dr Siddiqui has a special interest in Neuro-rehabilitation, stroke and Parkinson's disease. He has been a consultant since December 2007 and trained in Geriatric Medicine in the West Midlands deanery. Currently he works at City Hospital, Birmingham. Naturally, he can prescribe to the client and can do so in conjunction with the other team members, maximising all benefits.
Who leads this service?
Geriatric Medicine
Perhaps the more easily recognised specialism, Geriatric Medicine focuses on health care of individuals that suffer from the conditions normally encountered by elderly people. We have a particular strength in stroke and Parkinson's disease. Whilst usually delivered to older patients, there are occasions where these conditions are experienced and require treatment in younger patients. This is commonality between certain conditions in geriatric medicine and neurological injuries.
In order to provide the full range of treatments to our clients, we are able to provide Medical Consultant Services. We have a particular strength both in Rehabilitation and Geriatric Medicine and can offer prescribing throughout Neurophysioplus. Our approach includes appreciation of the issues surrounding polypharmacy which can range from the burden of taking many pills through to adverse drug reactions and drug interactions. Polypharmacy is of particular concern amongst the elderly and some types of catastrophic injury.
